CBD can be safe for animals. However, pet owners should always consult the animal’s vet prior to using any CBD products. The dosing is different for pets compared to human dosage and using too much is unfortunately all too common.
THC is toxic to animals, which is why it’s important to buy a quality CBD product with a company that will provide a certificate of analysis. This applies to humans, too! It is best to find your animal a product that has 0% THC.
There have been few to no side effects observed in animals as a result of CBD. However, signs of THC poisoning may be vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, restlessness, and trouble standing. If you think your animal may be experiencing THC poisoning, contact your vet immediately.
A 2018 study published in Frontiers in Veterinary Science revealed a decrease in pain and an increase in activity in dogs receiving CBD oil. However, these studies are preliminary, and more studies are needed.
